There’s just something about fall. Students seem the happiest in the autumn months when they return home to Hamilton and find that the seasons are changing and everything on the Hill feels fresh. Everyone is starting anew— whether it’s a freshman making a first impression or a senior rediscovering Hamilton after studying abroad.
At The Continental, we’re thrilled about our fresh start—a new crop of editors, writers and photographers are kicking off our second year with style. Inside this issue, you’ll find a diverse array of articles about the Hamilton community that we hope you will find insightful, interesting, and engaging.
In Features, we explore the Posse Foundation—a unique program that provides scholarships and leadership training to 10 inner-city students each year. The matriculation of a new “posse” at Hamilton this fall brings new and distinct viewpoints. Students certainly have strong views when it comes to evaluating the dating scene (or lack thereof) at Hamilton. The results of a recent survey, The Continental found that 90% of females and 73% of males prefer relationships to random hook-ups, although there was a general consensus that the hook-up culture at Hamilton overshadows the search for a meaningful relationship. Off the Hill, Entertainment Editor Nicole Dietsche profiles two indie bands on the rise in New York City, and gains unique insight into the challenges facing up-and-coming musicians.
There’s no better time to be on the Hill. Everywhere we look there are students are taking advantage of all the College has to offer. There are simply not enough pages to cover the buzz of activity on the Hill, which is why we decided to expand the magazine online. We’re excited to launch a new website—contmag.com—and hope that you will find it to be a great way to connect to the Hamilton community.
